The 3rd edition of BasqueDokFestival (BDF) 2020 must be cancelled
The 3rd edition of BasqueDokFestival (BDF) 2020
must be cancelled.
We see each other in 2021.
After having analyzed the current situation due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, and evaluated all the possible situations that may occur between now and the end of 2020, the organizing team of The BasqueDokFestival (International Festival on Documentary Photography) has adopted the difficult decision to move this 3rd edition (scheduled on 22th-25th October 2020) to October 2021.
From responsibility and ethical commitment to citizens and the public and private institutions that support us, we have prioritized helping and responding to the most pressing, priority and vital needs to guarantee the health and well-being of citizens. We believe that at this time we must postpone our objectives as a Festival until 2021, to favour the recovery of the cultural, social and economic fabric.
We have been working for many months in the preparation and organization of this 3rd Edition of the BasqueDokFestival. With a program of Conferences, Workshops, Multimedia Screening, Portfolio Review, etc. With internationally renowned photographers, in order to offer a Festival that goes beyond, if possible, the previous editions.
The unprecedented global situation that has caused the pandemic of the Covid-19 virus worldwide has brought the closure of borders. Given the impossibility of guaranteeing the good development of the Festival in optimal conditions, both for the public and for the participation of the speakers at the Festival, who will not be able to travel outside their countries, and with the limitations of capacity to guarantee social distancing, we are obliged to suspend this year’s edition.
We want to act responsibly in compliance with all health recommendations and we also want to ensure the future of the BasqueDokFestival, not compromising its level of quality or its vocation for permanence, as one of the most important cultural initiatives in Bilbao, in the field of documentary photography.
The 3rd Edition of the BDF (autumn 2021), organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and BlackKamera (School of Documentary Photography), will once again become the place where the new values and languages of the documentary photography take place. The BasqueDokFestival organizing team will continue working on the 3rd Edition with the support and collaboration of public and private institutions, and the invaluable help of all professionals in the photography and visual arts sector.
The final dates of this 3rd Edition of the BDF will be confirmed in autumn 2020.
